About Us

FPT is working to support Peacebuilding in Colombia.  The Peacebuilding in Colombia Initiative of Friends Peace Teams has sent a number of exploratory delegations to Colombia, working to establish an ongoing Peace Team presence in Colombia. 

The delegations have meet with concerned people to learn about the seriousness of the conflicts in Colombia.  Delegations have also conducted a series of Alternatives to Violence training sessions.  Participants have found them to be very useful in helping them in their work for reconciliation and the stopping of armed confrontation.  We anticipate continuing to offer training session in the future.  We are also working to promote the Sanctuaries of Peace project. 

Initially we have partnered  with the Mennonite Church of Colombia. 

In light of increased US aid to the Colombian military, Friends Churches and Meetings may also be led to respond by becoming Centers for Peacemaking, and formally joining the Sanctuaries of Peace project.  This will support the peacemaking work of our sisters and brothers in Colombia. 

Peacebuilding in Colombia is a program of Friends Peace Teams.  Its work is carried out by a working group, appointed by Friends Peace Teams that generally communicates through email and phone conference calls.
